This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don't need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling. For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other attachments include a bare floor nozzle and a powered hand tool that is also ideal for upholstery or small carpet areas. All tools are mounted on the front of the vac in a handy case. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Consumer reports on vacuum cleaners can be very valuable for helping people decide on what specific vacuum cleaner to buy. The people who own the vacuum and use it all the time can provide great information on how well it works, how durable it is, what problems there are with it, etc. Below is a list of topics that should be discussed in good consumer reports on vacuum cleaners.
The ability to easily maneuver the vacuum cleaner is a big positive and can be the difference between the user loving it and hating it. Getting the unit around the house easily is an important factor. Look for reports that mention maneuverability and how easy or difficult it is to get the vacuum in hard to reach places or up and down the stairs.
Also look for consumer reports on vacuum cleaners that mention the power of the suction. You can only learn so much about the power of the vacuum based on the amps count. Most manufacturers list this number on the box to give consumers an idea of how powerful the machine will be. However, there are several other factors that influence suction power and how well built each individual machine is, is a big factor.
You want to find out what users are saying about the filter of the cleaner. Removing allergens and dust mites from the air and floor is an important part of a vacuum's job. The vacuum cleaner can only do this as well as the filter and filter system in it performs.

Title: Home Renovations DIY
Author: Colin Jones
Article: It appears that there has been a decline in consumer trust in the building and construction industry recently. This may be because of the scams shown on television or the bribery and corruption rampant in the corporate sector, but it is almost certainly the same reason why so many are now doing home improvements by themselves.
And why shouldn't they? A little knowledge of the technical aspects combined with an eye for creativity is often enough to complete the home improvement on your own.
Why are people turning to DIY home improvements?
There are many people attempting to pass themselves off as construction workers, although they do not have a lot of experience in construction or home maintenance and they are literally are out there right now practising, learning their trades on homes like yours and mine around the country.
Not surprisingly, homeowners are finding that the jobs are not being completed to their liking. Sometimes they are even pre-paying for services that do not get done or were not part of the plan.
You do not have to trust and pay someone to improve your home. Why not have a go yourself?
You can augment your home?s existing concrete surfaces using acid stains, acrylic paints, epoxy paints, and scoring techniques.
If you are tired of looking at drab gray concrete, there are some easy projects if you are sincere about having a go at home improvement DIY, you can easily give your patio, driveway or garage a revitalizing new look.
Decorative concrete work costs about double that of normal concrete, which is why a lot of people cannot afford it.
However, there are inexpensive methods to beautify concrete after it has cured, without having to pay skilled tradesmen.
Acid-based concrete stains are becoming more and more fashionable for coloring concrete surfaces. They chemically react with the fibres in the cement material to produce permanent color with a variegated or mottled appearance similar to that of marble. This results in a natural, stylish looking surface.
Water-based concrete stains are an alternative to acid stains but are much more user friendly because they are so much less toxic. These stains do not chemically react with the concrete; they are absorbed into the porous surface and act like a colorant. The big advantage of water based stains is the wide range of colors on hand.
If you want to venture beyond the basic staining of your concrete, think about using some scoring techniques to create patterns on the surface.
You can make your concrete resemble a tiled floor for example. It is just up to your imagination. A mini angle grinder with a 4 inch cutting wheel is the perfect tool for this.
The important thing to remember when scoring is to trace out the pattern on the concrete first and make sure you are satisfied with the way it looks because scoring is permanent.
Epoxy paints make an excellent coating for garage floors and cellar floors. Many industrial floors have epoxy coatings because of their hardiness and resilience to chemical spills as well as their appearance.
In recent years, however, it has become very popular for residential use with the availability of an growing number of different colors. This is not a complicated project, but the key to successful application is surface groundwork.
Epoxy paints have also become available in a water based form making it safe for the DIY'er and perfect for indoor applications. They cost a little more than stains. For a 400 square foot area, you'll pay out about $200 for the materials needed for this job.
So, you see? You do not have to spend big money to improve your home. You have the ability to do it yourself. With some instructions and a little bit of work, anyone can turn dull concrete into a masterpiece of their own.

Selecting the right vacuum cleaner should be a relatively easy job wouldn't you think? Don't they all basically work the same? Well, you would think so! But it's often a good idea to see what leading consumer testing groups determined during their product evaluations.
Consumer Reports did just that and thoroughly tested a number of popular vacuum cleaners. After putting these machines through their paces, testing on a variety of surfaces and conditions, a clear winner should be determined. Right? You would think so but it boggles the mind even after all this in-depth testing, their results and recommendations don't jive with customer feedback. Turns out the testing team may not rank a model very high but reviews submitted by owners of the product showed a completely different story.
So much for scientific testing!
Although there may be conflicting advice as to which is the 'best' vacuum cleaner to buy, here are some basic tips to keep in mind when you're out shopping for a new model.
A basic question is how long is the manufacturer's warranty? Vacuums do break down so a lengthy warranty is also a plus. Especially if you're laying out big dollars to purchase a high-end model.
Some budget-priced vacuums loose their appeal quickly when they encounter frequent breakdowns. That great 'deal' isn't so if it needs to be replaced every year or two.
Something else to look for is the length of the hose. Does it extend out far enough for those extra jobs you want to accomplish like cleaning the stairs or sweeping out the car? Will it reach the top of your curtains? Is it equipped with the attachments you'll need to do a thorough cleaning job? Crevice cleaners, dust brushes and smaller brush heads can greatly assist in specialized clean-up tasks.
If you'll be cleaning bare floors, do the roller brushes turn off? Rapidly rotating brush heads can scratch the surface of hardwood floors. "Beater brushes" are great for pulling up ground in dirt but some models do a poor job of cleaning close to baseboards. A model with an edge cleaner lets you get right up close to obstacles for a more thorough cleaning.
If you're selecting a 'bag' model, make sure your local retailer carries the make and size you'll need. If not, you'll have to order them through the mail and that can be a major inconvenience. Vacuum cleaner bags come in a very wide assortment depending on the make and model of your unit. Your local store may carry the brand name but be sure they also stock dust bags for your particular model type.
If you opt to forgo the bag-type cleaners, there's still some replacement costs involved. Many models have filters that need to be changed periodically. A high-end unit may require expensive replacement filters too. So you'll also need to check out where these specially-designed filters may be purchased.
Vacuum cleaners come in two basic models: Canister and Upright. Canisters work exceptionally well on hard floors and stairs, but effectiveness varies greatly on carpet. Canisters tend to cost more than an upright and are not as maneuverable due to their large size and weight. Canisters can be very cumbersome if your cleaning duties involve relocating the unit up and down stairs.
The top-rated canister vacuum when tested by Consumer Reports went to the Kenmore Intuition 28014. This Kenmore model allows carpet height adjustments, brushes that can be disengaged for bare floors and is also equipped with a full-bag indicator.
The cord on the Intuition is retractable and has a HEPA filter for cleaning the air as well. This recommended canister vacuum has a list price around $600 and weighs 26 lbs.
Uprights perform admirably on bare floors and like their canister cousins, results on carpets are varied. Effective cleaning also requires sufficient power achieved via the hose and attachments.
Consumer Reports tested a number of upright vacuum cleaners and the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition U6485-900 edged out the competition in head-to-head testing. This is unit collects dirt and debris with a dust bag.
This Hoover model is self-propelled making maneuvering the WindTunnel an easy task. It's equipped with a HEPA filter, full-bag indicator, and the brushes can be turned off to protect hardwood floors.
Consumer Reports labeled the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition a Recommended buy. Prices vary considerably ($180-$280) so be sure to shop around for the best deal.
