Rotating brushes are bad for wood floors?

I read some where that vacuum cleaners with rotating brush can scratch the wooden floor. Is this true?

the usual rotating brush to scratch the ground, as in the gouges, but the finish that protects the wood finally deaf due to the slight abrasion brush.
