Connecting the mains power driver to a Hoover vacuum container conquest?

I have a Hoover vacuum pot conquest (silver color), who had intermittent power problems (solved by pulling the power cord), but has now stopped working altogether. It is likely that the cable mains power has spread internally, but I can see how to access the anchor point for the cable or reel. There are two recessed screws near the hinge of the lid a dust bag that I dropped, but the coating on the power supply and fan is still firmly attached and can not see any other screws. Cleaner is out of warranty and I intend to use it in the garage, so I'm not too worried about scratches or minor damage.
